Some of the biggest names in bartending and mixology from the world have been lined up to be part of India’s first ever Bar Awards, which will be held in Mumbai next month. The awards will be given away in six categories including Best Mixologist, Best Flairtender, Best Female Bartender, Best Sommelier, Best Concept Drink and Cocktail of the Year. A lifetime achievement award will also be given away at the event, which is being organised by Flairology, a Pune-based bar and beverage company and an institute that offers bartending courses in Mumbai and Pune.
A league of experts will be present at the event to take the lead in a mixology and flair camp. Delhi-based mixologist Yangdup Lama, author of The Ultimate Indian Cocktail Book, flair bartender Ami Shroff and Polish bartender Marek Posluszny, who is also five time world champion in flair style are among the heavyweights who will showcase their skills and share trade secrets at the mixology and flair camp.
What is special about the bar awards is that this is the first time that it is not just another category within a set of awards for the hospitality industry, but a platform dedicated to the bar industry. Says well-known bartender and mixologist Shatbhi Basu, “These awards are different for the simple reason that these have been organised by and for the bar industry. There have been no other awards specifically focussed on the bar industry. It’s a beginning and I’m really happy for Pankaj Kamble and his partner Sachin Gowda who have taken this initiative.” The awards will be given away based on experience and achievements until date, an internal scoring session by an expert jury and public voting. The awards night is also open to the public for a registration fee of Rs 499.
